Peter O'Shea

Peter O’Shea is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Barnardos New Zealand. He is a Chartered Accountant with over 20 years experience as a high-level financial manager.

He joined Barnardos in 2012. Prior to joining Barnardos, from 2003 through 2012, he served as General Manager Finance (CFO) for the Institute of Environmental Science and Research Ltd, a Crown Research Institute (CRI) specialising in forensic and environmental health research and science service provision. Mr. O’Shea has held senior finance and internal audit manager positions across a wide range of private and public organisations, where he has worked closely with board and audit committees, including Communication Arts (a subsidiary of New Zealand Post), NIWA (a CRI), Natural Gas Corporation and KPMG.

Mr. O’Shea has a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Cork University (Ireland). He is a Chartered Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor and has completed the Institute of Directors qualification for a company director. As a senior financial officer, he has significant experience in financial reporting, information technology, finance and capital management, risk management, property management, and board operations. This background provides any board/governance body with broad expertise in financial, risk management and operational issues.
