Forest Profit Expectations Dataset - U10073

A dataset on estimated forest profit expectations. Data on net present value (NPV) and internal rate of return (IRR) are included; data on equal annual equivalent and land expectation value can be derived. The data is for expected profits on LUCAS land in 2008; however data for all land and any year between 1990 and 2008 are available. The data was constructed under the assumption that land owners have adaptive expectations; each dataset has two versions, one that uses 4 quarterly average prices for forming expectations and another that uses 12 quarterly average prices. Working data and code are available upon request. Data are available in both ASCII and raster grid (ArcGIS-friendly) formats.

A detailed description of the dataset is available as Olssen, Alex, Wei Zhang, David Evison and Suzi Kerr. 2012. “A Forest-Profit Expectations Dataset for New Zealand, 1990–2008,” Motu Working Paper 12-07, Motu Economic and Public Policy Research, Wellington.

The dataset has four parts: Net present value (using 4 quarterly average prices); Net present value (using 12 quarterly average prices); Internal rate of return (using 4 quarterly average prices); Internal rate of return (using 12 quarterly average prices). Each part includes data in ASCII and raster grid (for ArcGIS) formats. Enquire to info@motu.org.nz for more information.
