Catherine Leining joined Motu as a Policy Fellow in November 2013. She has 25 years of international experience in climate change and environmental policy. Her work at Motu focuses on shaping a low-emission future for New Zealand and the evolution of emissions trading in New Zealand and internationally.
In New Zealand, she has held policy positions at the Ministry for the Environment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Wellington City Council and New Zealand Transport Agency. She served as a negotiator in the New Zealand delegation to the UNFCCC negotiations and helped to design the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme. She currently provides independent consulting services through Silver Lining Global Solutions (http://www.SilverLiningGS.com) and has been trained as a Climate Leader under The Climate Reality Project launched by Al Gore. She holds a BS in biology (with distinction) and French from Duke University. Outside of work, she is an opera singer and enjoys hiking.
