Fraser joined Motu as an intern in November 2013. His affiliations are to Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Rongomaiwahine, and Tainui. In 2014 he graduated from the University of Auckland with a BA/BCom conjoint degree majoring in Economics, Statistics and Finance. Whilst at Motu, Fraser conducted research under the direction of Dr. Arthur Grimes to investigate whether values differ on a range of well-being and sustainability issues between Pākehā and Māori, after controlling for personal factors such as income and education. The project is still maturing, with the visible goal of getting published drawing ever nearer.
He intended to study Statistics at Honours level in 2014, alongside a couple of postgraduate Economics papers – this plan has been postponed until further notice, however, as he received a job offer from Taylor Fry Consulting Actuaries based in Sydney, Australia, where he has been based since March 2014. At Taylor Fry, Fraser has developed numerous skills, most notably in data analysis, statistical modelling, liability valuation, as well as data management and processing.
He has a keen interest in the works of Thomas Piketty and Joseph Stiglitz on the topic of economic inequality, and plans to conduct further study in this area someday. In his spare time, Fraser enjoys practising martial arts, reading, and meditation.
